COXA Golf Day : Surrey Downs Golf Course – Friday 19 June 2026

After more than a decade of coming close, John Flynn has finally achieved golfing immortality by winning the COXA Stan Miller Stapleford Trophy.

Played in excellent conditions, with temperatures reaching 28°C and only a light breeze to contend with, John produced a superb score of 41 Stableford points off a handicap of 18. His victory is particularly well deserved given his remarkable consistency over the years.

During the last 12 years of this competition, John has averaged 36 points, a record surpassed only by Mick McLoughlin, whose average stands at an impressive 37 points. Persistence, it seems, does eventually pay off.

Mick O’Sullivan also enjoyed an outstanding day, claiming the Eamon Taggart Memorial Trophy for Nearest the Pin and finishing runner-up in the Stableford competition. Not a bad return for a day’s golf.

In the Guest Competition, Conor Keable played some excellent golf to secure victory with an impressive 44 Stableford points off a handicap of 16.

The Guest Nearest the Pin competition was won by David Hackshaw, who distinguished himself by being the only player to find the green—a strategy that proved highly effective.
The Team Competition was won by Mick McLoughlin, Tom Judge, James Bairstowe and John Flynn, rounding off an excellent day for the eventual individual champion.

The day did not begin quite as smoothly as planned, with significant delays on the M25 affecting arrival times, pre-round routines and, in some cases, stress levels. Fortunately, once everyone reached the course, the traffic frustrations were quickly forgotten, and all participants enjoyed a memorable day of golf and good company.

We are pleased to confirm that next year’s event has already been booked and will take place on Friday, 18 June 2027.
