A message from your Chairman

Fellow Old Xaverians, it is my honour to write to you on this important matter for every one of us. The establishment of this Scholarship will be our legacy. Each of us has positive proof of the benefits bestowed upon us at our school.

The Association is peopled by men in their 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. The chance to facilitate a similar path for a young person at “our old school” will be a source of pride for us, collectively and individually. For the price of less than a pint per week, for a few years, your sub-committee will establish (quickly) a charitable trust which will send one History student per year into their studies with the first year funded by us. If the cost of less than two pints per month is more palatable, I urge you, equally, to pledge that support. (If however, you don’t drink beer…….)

I urge you to support this initiative; I urge you to hear Colin Garvey’s voice, and the voice of ALL of our former teachers who gave us the tools to make our way in the world with confidence and an ongoing sense of brotherhood between us.

When dinner party guests and blokes in the pub ask “which charitable causes do you support?”, then amongst the more well-known names, to be able to say that “you support your Old Boys’ Association in sending a South London student to university” will be a feather in your cap and a tribute to our scholarly mentors, many of whom are still around to support this also.

I’m delighted to ask you this thing,

Regards,

David Leathem
Chairman COXA
