COXA 1st XI continued their unbeaten run with a commanding 7-0 victory over Actonians in their latest league match, played under glorious sunshine on a pristine pitch. Sitting one point clear at the top of the table, Clapham delivered a dominant display but struggled to maintain possession, relying heavily on devastating counter-attacks to dismantle their opponents.
With Actonians fielding a bare 11 and no substitutes, Clapham capitalized on their opponents’ tiring legs. Cillian was relentless up front, tirelessly chasing long balls and stretching Actonians’ defense. Despite spurning several chances, Clapham’s clinical finishing made the difference in a one-sided affair.
The scoring opened when Andre intercepted a ball near the halfway line, sprinted clear, and slotted home with ease. He doubled his tally soon after, latching onto a superb through ball, outpacing the defense, and firing in from distance. Cillian got in on the act next, breaking the offside trap to confidently slot home for 3-0. Andre’s pace proved unstoppable, as he raced onto another through ball to make it 4-0, leaving Actonians’ defenders floundering.
The fifth goal saw Andre turn provider, breaking the offside trap once more and squaring to Dom T for a simple tap-in. Aren added the sixth, smashing a left-footed volley from a corner that dropped perfectly at his feet. The rout was completed by an own goal, as an Actonians defender’s blind back pass wrong-footed their keeper, rolling into the net. Clapham’s counter-attacking prowess overwhelmed a fatigued Actonians side, who offered little resistance.
Look forward to seeing many of you next week for the club day.
