A great day at the club for the 1s V 2s and 3s V 4s followed by drinks and a BBQ. Well done to all that played.

Hi Guys,

Thank you for making our pre-season inter-club games so well attended on Saturday. It was great to see all 4 teams fielding an XI despite it being peak holiday season, and also brilliant that so many of you stayed for the beers and BBQ afterwards. Hopefully, you got a chance to meet your fellow club mates for the coming season, if you
had not done so already.

Below is a brief match report of each game, along with the team squads.

1st team vs 2nd team: Result: 4 – 2

1st Team Squad: Nathan, Perry Mabbutt, Harry Wakeford, Chris McLoughlin, Matt Cefai, Liam Grier, Joseph, Gareth Parkes, Charlie Paton, Markus Dawson, Rio Bogle, Reece Davis, Bernard Mensah
2nd Team Squad: Mark Gillespie (GK)- (Safe hands Gilli), Ronald O’hene – (The Hulk), Jamie Squire (Jaap Stam of Putney), Simon Carson- (the insurance policy), Derek Mensah (Del L Cool J), Rob Bentham (Edu), James Allen (The Mailman), Dave Whelan (Ferret), Darnell Fearon, Wes Monford (the athlete), Chris Bailey, Neil Murray.

A decent game, with some brilliant football played by both sides. For the 1st team, JJ, Charlie and Liam looked solid in the centre of the park and comfortable in possession. The 2s played with grit and dogged energy, with Darnell Fearon playing wide for the 2s looking dangerous in attack, he had a great chance to put the 2s 1 – nil up early on in the game. James Allen and Rob Bentham were competitive in the middle, with Rob scoring for the 2s. The 1s created a number of chances with Rio Bogle looking sharp after a long injury spell. It wasn’t long before he took his chances and ended the game with his hatrick. Simon Carson and Jamie Squire at the back for the 2s looked great, making tackles and winning headers all day long, but struggled to contain the movement of Rio. Both teams looked like they are building from a solid base for this season. Rob Bentham and Neil Murray got on the scoresheet for the 2s, final score COXA 1s 4 – 2 COXA 2s
Men of the Match: 1st M.O.M – Rio Bog
le (hatrick hero) 2s M.O.M (joint) - James Allen and Darnell Fearon

3rd Team V 4th Team: Result 9 - 0

3rd Team Squad: M. Gillispie, M. Peters, J. Bailey, A Jones, D Halfpenny, A Whittington, D. Sivajoti, H. Harmer, C. Arundel, J. Davorn, D. Monford, R. Smith, D. Hamilton
4th Team Squad: Kingsley, Jon Leathem, Gordon McCarthy, Sean Slater, Andy Brannon, Sam Grosser, Jacob Brown, Rob Williams, Colin Brown, Tom Macgregor, Stan Christoforou, Beau Reece, Luke McLoughlin, Conor Keable, Issac Harold, Mick O’Flynn

Despite the heavy defeat suffered by the 4s, this score line was actually extremely flattering to the 3rd team. The 3rd team were organised, they had shape and dangerous on the attack. Rich Smith and Hamish Harmer up front caused troubles all day for the 4s back line, both notched up 4 goals each, with Dwayne Monford also getting on the scoresheet. Many of the goals coming from swift counter attacks leaving the 4s exposed. That being said, Sam Grosser, Jacob Brown and Tom Macgregor for the 4s looked lively- always wanting the ball and prepared to take a gamble. At times, all three players showing real touches of class and skill. The 4s shouldn’t be upset by this result, as once a few more of their regular players are back and they’ve played together a bit more, they’ll be fine. “Win as a team, lose as a team”. The upcoming friendlies for the 4s will be a great chance to get organised and the new players to get to know each other.

Next up:
Pre-season training continues on Saturday, 11am start at the club. Reece will be taking the sessions again, before each team has 3 pre-season friendly games lined up in the coming weeks. This is the ideal time for players to get to know each other, play together and for captains to work out their squads.

If anyone has not played for the club on this email and wants to get back involved, please get in touch, the captains will be delighted to hear from you. Also, if you haven’t registered for the club and are planning to play this season, your team captains can get you the registration forms to fill in before the start of the season.

Cheers guys, see you Saturday for training
