Sad news. Our great friend Henry Pinsent has died. His funeral is at 2.00pm, Fri 16th Dec at St Joseph's Church, 58 Cromer Rd, Sheringham NR26 8RT

Funeral Details just received from Pat Pinsent, Henry's wife...

Eddie, I know that when he was capable of remembering things, the association with Old Xaverians was important to Henry - not only the football (some time ago he thought he'd played for Manchester United!) but also the friends.

The funeral mass is at 2.00pm on Friday 16th December at St Joseph's Church, 58 Cromer Rd, Sheringham NR26 8RT followed refreshments in the Tyneside Club. Both are close to the station, but it's a long journey, with the little train from Norwich to Sheringham only running hourly and stopping at every station. So it's quite a prolonged journey from London and I wouldn't want anyone to feel the obligation to attempt it ...

Best wishes

Pat

Gentleman,

Some sad news. Our great friend Henry died last week. I have extended the Association’s deepest sympathies to the Pinsent family.

May he rest in peace.

Eddie

A message from Pat Pinsent, Henry's wife...

This is to let you know that my husband, Henry Pinsent, died of Alzheimer's on November 30th. Funeral Mass on Friday 16th, cremation on Tuesday 20th, not that I'm expecting anyone to make the journey to the wilds of north Norfolk. But perhaps you could inform people who knew him
Best wishes
Pat

Words from Colin Garvey...

Sad news indeed. Henry was a legend, highly intelligent, a superb athlete, and a most friendly individual. Some thoughts come to mind -

Denis Quin remembers him walking around Motspur Park running track, reading a physics book. The starter called them to their marks, Henry put down the book, got set, and went on to win the Surrey 800 metres by a street. He then picked up his book, and continued reading.

Henry played football for Coxa, and gave lifts to younger members , including Scotty, and as usual covered every inch of the pitch. His boys played for Clapham too.

He told me once that he had researched his family name, which is French in origin. He had found he was related to the rower..

Henry's garden was full of statues made by himself.

What a guy.

Col.

Brendan Williams remembers..

I saw this last night and it really saddened me. Henry was a special old boy, one of the old school who really welcomed newer younger guys into the fold and onto the field. I played many games in the same side as Henry and will always remember his towering headers, regularly scored. I recall a conversation one week at Barn Elms just before a game against Shene OG's at the turn of a decade when Henry confided that this was his fourth or fifth decade of playing for COXA but for the life of me I can't decide. Was it early 1990 and Henry had been playing since the 1950's giving him appearances in 5 decades or was it 1980 and only 4 decades, can anyone suggest what the fact was? Scotty, teamsheets? Not sure it really matters but I would love to put my memory straight.

We shared the same parish church at John the Baptist, Purley for many years and it was great to see him after his hip replacements having watched him hobble around for years but in later years it was clear his memory was fading.

What a truly great Old Boy, he will be missed. God rest his Soul.

Brendan
