What a strange old season it has been so far....

What a strange old season it has been so far. Apologies to all who have been deprived their Clapham Cricket banter and allow me to provide a brief update of the season so far.

I would like to say that it has been a steady season of good performances and constant wins but now that would just not really be Clapham.

A desperate struggle ensued for Clapham with a combination of battling the weather and ourselves. A high point was being sent in to bat by a St. Luke's Team who severely underestimated our openers patience. After 35 overs Clapham were 150-1 and finally the middle order had a platform to push on from. Getting to 235 also gave the bowlers the encouragement they needed and Clapham once again proved that once they hit above 200, they are near impossible to play.

After loosing 2 games on the bounce being within 10 runs or two overs of winning, 3 weeks of no action due to rain and then another loss really hampered the confidence in the camp. Clapham were unable to combine individual standout performance in a game together which meant we sat 3rd from the bottom by the end of June. Early runs for Jaffry boy and the skipper, Richie Mac, felt like Clapham were on life support and without these two it would have been 2nd division cricket for all involved.

And just as Clapham always do, they snatch a win to begin the upward spiral.

Tour followed... http://www.claphamoldxaverians.co.uk/news/stories-from-the-coxa-cricket-tour-to-the-english--1663425.html

After a magnificent wedding for our Captain and a tour that is probably best left in the past, Clapham got back to action and are moving up the table with 2 wins and an almighty battle with Economicals where we came out second best and a new record was set with amount of runs through to third man.

The final run in to the end of the season has begun and clapham find themselves in 5th within a win of climbing 2 places up to 3rd. Needless to say this could get tasty... Watch this space
