MATCH REPORT:
4th XI

What a way to come back from that boring-no-football-for-amateurs-holiday called Christmas than with a rip snorter of a game vs the ol' tiffs.

Its a hard game to write about as it was just a good game of football...but here I go anyway. I make no apologies for it being not as good...but I'm in a relatively cheery mood...and I'm a bit out of practice. I also am not apologising for spelling mistakes...as I can't be bothered to re-read it. I just tend to write and send. Anyway...who are you the f***ing grammar police. Piss off.

Coming off the back of the 10-2 win in the reverse fixture (you remember... With the geese and the weeing on the rugby pitch), Tiffs had gone hard in the January transfer window, bringing in plenty of fresh faces *sideways eyes emoji* to take on COXA to try and avoid another hiding.

Game started and it was an even affair, Clapham, however, seemed to be suffering from tmts (Too much turkey syndrome) and from too much time off due to the bnffah (boring no football for amateurs holiday) (trying to be culturally sensitive by not calling Christmas) (shit....I just called it Christmas) and some passes weren't as accurate as they have been and the communication between the team seemed somewhat lacklustre. Nice word that, lacklustre. Even so, Clapham had the first chance when we rattled the crossbar from close range. A little more too-ing and frow-ing presented very little for either team as defences snuffed out all attacks. If it wasnt for their keeper pulling off some worldies...then Coxa would have been in front by half time. Alas...it wasnt to be. Tiffs had a sniffs st goal when a header came in, looped over yours truly and destined for the goal...Jay Buckerfield rose highest to head the ball off the line. Cracking effort. 0-0 at the half.

Fine time to sit back and admire some of the wonderful things that you only get in amateur football. Markus losing his shit over a throw in. Wow...that was an intense German. (Also...looking fly in my boots, my man). The ref telling EVERYBODY off if they disagreed with him or even hinted at an appeal. That was jokes.

I next have to look at the Jay Buckerfield moment of the week (jbmotw). As you all know, to win this prestigious award you need to do something truly brilliant but for it to have no real purpose or end product. However, the usual winner of this award, it has to be said, was hardly in contention. Yes, he cleared the ball off the line and in the second half went down and was going to be subbed off...but didn't want to...so didn't...but you don't win the award for those things. YOU DO win it for being able to deliver 2 in swinging corners, first with your right foot and then a minute later with your left, for them to both lead to zero goals. Only Santi Carzola could have (maybe) done it better. So take a bow Adam 'santi carzola' Jones for being ridic at both footed corners and winning this weeks Jay Buckerfield moment of the week.

The second half started much similar to the end of the first. However...clapham had changed formation to a more attacking 4-4-3 and reaped the benefit almost immediately, as a cross was dropped by the keeper right at the feet of dry January Harmer to poke it home from inches out.

A long kick from goal played in Harmer again, but another worldie from the keeper still kept the game close.

Some good moves from Clapham caused more havoc on the tiffs goal...but couldn't find the net.

The longer the game went on, the more intense it got, the deeper Coxa sat in their own half. But they were effective. Keeping the strikers at bay, and when they did break through, the keeper was on hand to claim some crosses and ease the pressure.

The biggest moment came with only a few minutes left when tiffs broke the back line, pulled it back and when it looked easier to score, Critchlow used his outstretched boot, de gea style to block the ball and the danger was cleared.

Despite defending for their lives, Clapham still posed a threat going forward and Hamish managed to show off his skills by performing a perfectly executed Maradona turn followed by a step over (to nobody).

Hanging on is an unfair description, as whilst Tiffs pressed, Clapham controlled the situation well and just as the win was in sight, we saw it.....

The lesser spotted clean sheet. Last seen in Norbury a few months ago. The lesser spotted Southfield clean sheet is a harder beast to find, especially as we often struggle on 4g pitches. But there it was...and it was pretty.

Rightly so, Harmer got the MOTM award and Chicken wings and ribs were enjoyed at the Earlsfield.

Great start to 2018 and a big win against a much improved team, now go home, put your feet up, watch some sport on telly...I heard that RUGBY is good. But that might just be a rumour, and if you choose to, enjoy a drink. You all deserve it. If you still have some Christmas chocolate... Have some of that too. Personally, I'm having a glass of rioja and curly wurly.

Peace

MOTM Hamish Harmer
